WHAT IS FPGA SYNTHESIS?
Field programmable gate array (FPGA) technology allows music synthesizer hardware designers to create custom integrated circuits that are 'field programmable'. This allows for an efficient method of synthesis that goes far above the typical analog and digital circuits found in ordinary synthesizers; both in capability and cost-effectiveness.
Greater instrument polyphony, multitimbrality and oversampling are just a few of the key musical enhancements. A designer could even make modifications to the circuit after the hardware has been manufactured via firmware updates, adding new powerful features.
